How To Use Sugar To Extend The Life Of Your Cut Peonies
By TRICIA GOSS
Sugar can help you extend the life of cut peonies, as it acts as a food source for the flowers, providing them with energy and keeping them well-hydrated and refreshed for longer.
To create the sugar solution, dissolve approximately 1 tablespoon of sugar per quart of water that you’ll use in your vase for the cut peonies.
Optional ingredients such as vinegar, lemon juice, or about ¼ tablespoon of bleach can be added to the sugar water for extra benefits, including preventing bacterial growth.
For the best results, change the water every other day, trim the peony stems at an angle to promote better water absorption, and keep the flowers away from
direct sunlight.
