How To Use Vinegar To Keep Your Denim Bright
By CLAIRE DANGALAN
Denim's classic indigo color is truly iconic. Head to your kitchen pantry and grab the vinegar to preserve your denim's color and keep it bright and spiffy.
Vinegar absorbs and neutralizes pigmented minerals released when dyes and sulfur come into contact with water. Per LuLaRoe's YouTube video, begin by filling a tub with water.
Add a cup of distilled white vinegar and two tablespoons of table salt to the tub. Submerge your de-labeled, inside-out denim pants in the solution for at least an hour.
Lightly wring out the pants, turn them right side out, and pop them into your washing machine with another cup of distilled white vinegar, using cold water set to a quick rinse.
Give the jeans a quick spin in the dryer and let them air dry naturally. This process helps set the dye but also prevents bleeding or fading.
As an alternative, MakeYourOwnJeans suggests a simpler method of a 30-minute cold water and distilled vinegar soak, followed by a wash in your machine.
Refrain from overwashing your jeans and hanging them outside on a sunny day, as UV rays break down the dye molecules and can cause color fading.
