How To Water Your Lawn To Avoid Damaging Plant Roots & Attracting Pests
By KIM W.S.
To avoid overwatering your lawn and causing problems like pests and damaged roots, water less frequently and more deeply in the early morning. When in doubt, err on the dry side.
Instead of an automated system, let the lawn fully dry out before you water again. Your grass will tell you if it needs water when you see slight wilting and it shows footprints.
Lawns typically need only about 1 inch of water per week, including rainfall. Water one to three times per week as needed, aiming for about ⅓ to ½ of an inch of water per session.
