Hummingbirds Can't Get Enough Of
This Bright & Beautiful Flower
By CHARLOTTE SEARS
The firecracker plant, also known as Cuphea or the cigar plant, is a tropical delight that boasts bright red, tubular flowers that naturally draw hummingbirds to your garden.
The flowers are perfectly shaped to cater to the unique feeding habits of these tiny birds, allowing them easy access to nectar with their long bills and pump-like tongues.
Available in various colors and varieties, the plant can grow from 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide, offering a vibrant display of blooms from summer until the last frost.
It naturally sheds spent blooms, eliminating the need for regular deadheading. It grows as a perennial in USDA zones 8 and above, and is considered an annual in zones below 8.
