Increase Kitchen Storage Space With A Clever Mason Jar Hack
By BARBARA PAVONE
If you’re short on storage and counter space in your kitchen, try this simple DIY Mason jar hack that will provide extra room off the counter for items you use often.
All you'll need for this project are four Mason jars, a piece of wood, some nails, screws, a drill, screwdriver, hammer, tape measure, picture hangers, and four hose clamps.
To start, clean the jars and remove the labels by soaking them in rubbing alcohol. Then, take off the metal lids, fill the jars with whichever items you'd like, and set them aside.
Measure the area where you want your jars, cut a strip of wood to fit, stain it, and then let it dry for 24 hours. A 1-inch by 4-inch board costs under $3 at The Home Depot.
Next, measure and hammer the picture hangers into the back of the wood. Then, measure and mark the front of the wood to evenly space out the four Mason jars.
Now, drill pilot holes into the wood where you’ve marked it, and screw the hose clamps in place. Slide the jars into the clamps and tighten the screws around the neck of the jars.
Finally, affix the board to the wall in the designated space — for instance, above your countertops — where you can easily access the contents of the jars when you need them.
