Jenn Todryk Has A Clever Trick To Add Beachy Flare To Your Ceiling
By KRISTY BOWEN
HGTV’s Jenn Todryk, known for high-impact, low-construction home transformations, achieved a beach cottage vibe while working on a client’s space by adding slats to the ceiling.
Todryk’s low-cost and easy renovation idea, offered in an episode of the series “No Demo Reno,” pulled the room together and added architectural interest to a previously boxy room.
While the vertical slats made the room seem taller and larger than it actually is, the beachy feel was magnified by the use of flowy gauzy curtains and a chic rattan light fixture.
To add the effect to your ceiling, add flooring slats or simple 1 x 2 or 3-inch boards with a nail gun at regular intervals, and paint them with the same color as the ceiling.
Finish them in a wood stain so they match the room’s style. To add more visual interest, space the slats closer together or use interlocking tongue and groove boards like shiplap.
