HGTV star Joanna Gaines loves how the right color paint on ceilings can instantly and inexpensively transform a space

by giving it a thoughtfully designed and

custom element.

Gaines paints the ceilings in many of her projects to create an accent in the room. In one project, she painted a room and the ceiling a similar shade of moody gray.

In an interview with Elle Decor, Gaines says, "The soft gray on the ceiling creates an unexpected statement that brings the whole space to life in an affordable and creative way."

Gaines has also added textures to ceilings in addition to painting it, using elements like board and batten or molding to give

it character.

Combine texture with a fresh coat of paint for a sleeker and more modern look. If you want to make an even bolder statement, you can also use wallpaper on your ceiling.
