Keep Weeds Out Of Your Garden By Planting This Fragrant Herb
BY ANNETTE HIRD
Instead of spending hours fighting garden weeds, prevent them from growing in the first place with Walker’s Low catmint, an aromatic herb that inhibits weeds from taking root.
Walker’s Low catmint (Nepeta x faassenii) is a lovely mounding perennial that quickly grows in the spring to cover and shade the soil, preventing weeds from becoming established.
The plant thrives in USDA hardiness zones 4 through 8, tolerates drought and most soil types, and handles a bit of shade, even though it prefers sun. It doesn’t like humidity.
Unlike other mint plants, Walker’s Low catmint grows upright and doesn’t produce seeds, so while it prevents weeds, it’s regarded as non-invasive and won’t take over your garden.
