Keep Your Trash Bins Critter-Free With WD-40
By MICHAEL ALEXANDER UCCELLO
Simply spray a light coat of WD-40 on and around your trash bins, and let its smell and slickness do the trick to deter critters from damaging your trash bins.
Critters invading your bins usually have a heightened sense of smell, and the scent of WD-40 is strong and unfamiliar to them, which is why they'll tend to avoid them.
Additionally, WD-40 is a lubricant, so spraying it on the exterior of your bins creates a slick, slippery surface that most critters will find difficult to climb.
Start by cleaning the bin to maximize WD-40's effect, then shake the WD-40 can well, and spray a thin coating around the outside of the bin, particularly
the sides and the lid.
Let the WD-40 dry for about 15 minutes before placing the trash bag. Repeat this process and reapply WD-40 after rain or every few days to maintain its effectiveness.
