Kill Weeds Growing In Gravel Using Ingredients You Already Have
By Kate Nicholson
Weeds can mar the look of even the most professionally laid gravel patio or garden path. Thankfully, you can keep them in check by just using some vinegar, salt, and dish soap.
To make it work, mix household vinegar, salt, and dish soap in a spray bottle and saturate the weeds. Reportedly, the pesky plants start to die a few hours after spraying.
While household vinegar has no more than 5% acetic acid, adding salt and dish soap to the mix helps increase the blend's efficacy, ensuring that it works as a strong weed killer.
Salt is a potent drying agent; it dries out anything that comes into contact with it, including the juicy plant cells. Regular use makes growing anything difficult.
Dish soap disrupts the natural surface tension and protective outer coating on a weed's leaves and stems, helping the mixture penetrate the plant's tissues.
As dish soap is sticky, it keeps the solution on the plant longer. However, take care when applying, as it may not be as safe for birds, insects, and microbes.
