Losing Socks In The Washing Machine? Follow These Tips To Avoid It
By ALICIA BODINE
Use Safety Pins
Pin socks together with a safety pin before tossing them in the wash to ensure they don't get separated during the cleaning process.
You can also use a binder clip if a safety pin isn't available. If you have the budget, you can invest in a SockDock, a tool designed to keep socks from getting lost in the washer.
Use A Board
Set a dedicated spot for lonely socks so you don't forget about them forever. Hang them on a magnetic board to easily track the missing counterpart.
Place the board on the wall near the dryer and use magnetic clips to attach stray socks to it. When you find their missing counterparts, return them to the designated drawer.
Use Pool Noodle
It's easy not to see socks that slip behind or off the side of a washer or dryer as you load and unload laundry. To prevent this, use pool noodles as sock stoppers.
Attach a noodle to the sides and back of the washer and dryer using double-sided tape or Velcro. Curve them upward a bit so that they catch any socks sliding off the machines.
Replace Seals
When the seal is broken or missing, socks can slide down through the opening and get lost between the drum and the dryer's wall.
Simply remove the dryer door, release the screws on the door seal frame, and remove the old seal. Then, install a new one, beginning at the bottom and working toward the top.
Use Mesh Bags
You can simply wash the socks inside a mesh laundry bag, which comes in a variety of sizes. Unzip the bag, toss in the dirty socks, and then zip the bag shut.
Place the bag inside the washer before the other clothes, and then place it in the dryer. If you don't have a laundry bag, you can use a pillowcase, too.
