Make Decluttering Your Home Easier With
This Tip From Hilary Farr
By V BAWA
HGTV's Hilary Farr has a great tip to help make decluttering your home more efficient. Applying her “2 in, 2 out” rule, you make room for two new items by discarding two old ones.
In an episode of “Tough Love With Hilary Farr,” a family got lots of birthday gifts. They used the rule to identify which toys hadn’t been used in a while and could be discarded.
It’s most effective if you declutter your home first so you have fewer things to decide about discarding. Don't only get rid of old things — toss anything you know you won’t use.
Farr’s rule is a great way to maintain organization and prevent items from accumulating again after you’ve decluttered. One tip is to fill the new items’ box with old things.
The rule works best with things you have a lot of, like clothes, shoes, bags, plates, and mugs. Use this as an opportunity to donate things someone else can make better use of.
