Make Your Backyard Stand Out With DIY Checkered Patio Floor
By TESSA HAYLEY HELLBERG
If you’re looking for a way to bring elements of the “old money” decor trend into your home, a surprisingly easy project is to DIY a checkerboard patio floor for your outdoor area.
All you'll need are pavers, gravel, a plastic sheet or landscape fabric, and mulch glue. Measure your patio area to determine the size of the pavers and amount of gravel you need.
Choose stones and pavers with contrasting colors to achieve the checkerboard effect. You can substitute the gravel for colored pebbles or the pavers for artificial grass squares.
Clear your designated patio area, lay down the plastic sheeting, then plot out your checkered design. You can also add a border using small pavers the same color as the large ones.
To prevent the loose gravel from moving, cover the pavers with painter's tape, pour the mulch glue into a sprayer, and coat the gravel several times to hold it securely in place.
