Mistakes Everyone Makes When Buying Air Filters
By ABBY HAAS
One task homeowners often forget about is maintaining the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system by buying new air filters regularly. Air filters clean the air before it enters your home and come in a variety of sizes and styles, so here’s how to figure out which air filter you need to buy.
One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is to buy the wrong size air filter — too small of a filter allows all kinds of pollutants into your home and too big a filter allows dust and debris to accumulate. Measure the length and width of your old filter to find the right size when purchasing.
Not only do air filters come in different sizes, but they also vary in thickness and material. It’s important to get the right type for your space to make sure the air in your home is safe and clean, and to avoid buying the wrong type of filter, note the material of your current filter and how thick it is.
