Natural Ways To Keep Yellowjackets Far Away
By ETHAN HARRISON SMITH
Yellowjackets are a nuisance, especially since they may sting and bite you multiple times, so try these methods to get rid of them using items you likely already have at home.
You can build a DIY yellowjacket trap by filling a 2-liter plastic bottle with water and some sugary ingredients that will attract them. Once inside, they will be unable to escape.
Start by cutting off the top third of the 2-liter bottle. Add 1 cup of water, 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, and a 1/2 cup of sugar to the bottle, then mix up the concoction.
Add a banana peel in the bottle, along with a bit of soap to ensure the wasps will drown. Place the top of the bottle upside-down on top of the lower portion with the cap off.
While this DIY trap works well at killing yellowjackets, there are also ways to repel these pests. One of the best options is to use essential oils, such as peppermint oil.
To use it, fill a spray bottle with water and then add 10-15 drops of peppermint oil. Spray this mixture to repel yellowjackets and keep them away from your patio or yard.
Finally, adding garden herbs such as mint, thyme, and lemongrass to your yard will help banish yellowjackets permanently since they aren’t fond of these plants’ scents.
