Our Expert Explains Outdated Wall Art Trends You Should Try
To Avoid
By BROOKE HARDINGTON
As art trends constantly change, Whitney Vredenburgh, owner of Nested Spaces, suggests that farmhouse-era decor and inappropriately sized paintings should be avoided at all costs.
Even if cottage core design speaks to you, Vredenburgh recommends staying far away from farmhouse decor unless you live in a farmhouse due to its inauthentic and impersonal feel.
Instead, she encourages homeowners to locally source artwork that has meaning to them, such as a favorite vacation spot or landmark, to create a story that complements the room.
Vredenburgh also notes that people tend to buy artwork that is too small, so she suggests thoroughly measuring the surrounding furniture and the height of the wall before buying.
Different canvas sizes also suit specific places — for example, mini options work well on shelves while large statement pieces are a better fit for living rooms or master bedrooms.
