Our Real Estate Expert On What Flooring Choices To Avoid
By LEAH THOMSEN
Your choice of bedroom flooring affects both your comfort and your home’s appeal to future buyers, and since it’s not easy to change, it’s important to get it right the first time.
Realtor Ryan Fitzgerald, owner of Raleigh Realty and contributor to Forbes and U.S. News & World Report, spoke exclusively to House Digest about the worst bedroom flooring options.
Fitzgerald's advice is to avoid bold trends that become dated, polarizing flooring styles like whitewashed wood, and inconsistent flooring material and colors throughout the home.
"Buyers can get thrown off by abrupt transitions from room to room. Keeping it consistent and flowing gives your home a much more cohesive, thoughtful look," he advises.
Fitzgerald also cautions against carpeting in the bedroom: "That plush white carpet might look heavenly now, but [...] it's going to look downright grungy in a couple of years."
