Protect Hummingbirds From Predatory Praying Mantises With These Tips

While it may sound unlikely, starving praying mantises can indeed prey on hummingbirds. Fortunately, there are several effective ways to keep them away from your feeders.
If you spot a mantis on or near your hummingbird feeder, a simple solution is to gently relocate it by coaxing it onto a stick and moving it to a different location.
However, if the mantises persistently return, you may need to capture them in a container and release them a few miles away in a park or forest to prevent them from coming back.
Another great approach is to move the feeder itself. Placing it away from bushes or trees, where mantises often hide and camouflage, can significantly reduce
the risk.
Alternatively, you can purchase a wide bird feeder cover, which is readily available online. These covers not only deter mantises but also protect the feeder from rain and snow.
