Repairing Your Home's Ductwork Could Cost More Than You'd Expect
By SANDY BAKER
While the average range for ductwork repair costs is between $200 and $1,000, other factors can impact this cost, which can result in prices as high as $6,000.
If you need a minimal repair, like a corner joint that’s loose or coming apart, it’ll cost around $500. An easily accessible hole that needs patching can run from $150 to $350.
Larger problems, like leaks, can indicate significant damage to at least a portion of the duct system. If that’s the case, expect costs that range from $350 to $650.
Mid-range problems can include rust development in a single area, clogs, and condensation buildup that’s caught early. Fixing these can cost around $1,000.
Bigger problems like rodent removal will likely cost between $450 and $2,000, which may also warrant additional repairs if they've damaged a large part of the system.
If mold builds up in your ductwork, it may require extensive repair and mold remediation. For a comprehensive repair, this can cost between $2,000 and $6,000.
The materials used for the ductwork repair can also affect the overall cost. One common material is a flexible, non-metal system that costs between $200 and $800 to replace.
Fiberglass is another common ductwork material because of its durable, rigid body and shape. Repairing it can cost anywhere from $250 to $900.
While sheet metal is also an option, it’s also the most expensive to fix. Depending on the type of stainless steel used, fixing it can cost between $250 and $1,000.
