Save Money On Kitchen Cabinets With These Affordable Storage Alternatives
By RACHAEL GREEN
Without enough storage, countertops can overflow with appliances and other cooking essentials. However, before you install new cabinets, try these more affordable storage options.
If you add a pantry cabinet for groceries, you’ll have lots of extra space. You can upcycle a wardrobe — either use an IKEA wardrobe, or find an old wardrobe at a thrift store.
You can paint or stain it to create a stylish accent piece for your kitchen, and the cool thing about this trick is that you can install as many or as few shelves as you need.
Another option is to install open shelving on any empty wall space. Add a floating shelf above a window or some shelves in the space between your fridge and the door.
If you have over-stacked cabinet shelves, use the space above your cabinets instead to stash cooking items and platters. You can also just install more shelves in your cabinets.
Another idea is to stack dishes in a metal file organizer or file boxes. Also, try mounting mug hooks or stemware racks to the underside of your shelves to free up shelf space.
You can even mount racks to the inside of cabinet doors to hold spices, condiments, and other small items. Now, you can enjoy the extra storage and a less cluttered kitchen.
