Save These Items For
Last When Decluttering Your Home
By KIM W.S.
In an exclusive interview with House Digest, Jon Cronin, founder of Glimmer Cleaning, Co., shares an invaluable decluttering tip: Deal with frequently used items last.
He refers to these everyday essentials, like kitchen gadgets and your favorite mugs, as "MVPs (most valuable pieces)" because they "make your daily life easier and more enjoyable."
Cronin warns that tackling them too early in the decluttering process can "disrupt your daily routine and create unnecessary chaos," making the task
more challenging.
Instead, he suggests starting with non-essential items — those you rarely use or might have forgotten about — allowing you to free up space and refresh your
organizing systems.
As you declutter, Cronin advises finding a temporary home for your MVPs, such as a nearby shelf or a dedicated box, ensuring they remain accessible yet out of the way.
When it's finally time to address the essentials, he emphasizes focusing more on organizing and "finding practical spots for everyday items" rather than simply discarding them.
