Serena Williams' Unusual Kitchen
Island Is
Turning Heads
By PAMELA SIEGEL
When retired tennis star Serena Williams remodeled the kitchen of her Miami-based abode, she left the details to V Starr, a design business owned by her sister Venus Williams.
The result is a chic kitchen with several dramatic features, one of which is a custom-made island and geometric dining table combo.
The look combines a shape frequently seen in modern kitchen islands with geometric mid-century modern home furnishings dating back to the 1950s and '60s.
V Starr elegantly paired the traditional white island with a dark wood, trapezoid-shaped angular kitchen table that is now turning heads.
"We had to find that balance within the design," tennis star turned interior design expert Venus Williams told Architectural Digest about the plan to outfit her sister's kitchen.
The result, designed with the help of Serena Williams' private chef, is an entirely functional space with Caesarstone countertops and light flooring that contrast the dark wood.
