Small Bathroom Design Mistakes An Expert Wants You To Avoid
By ALEXANDRIA TAYLOR
Design can make or break a small bathroom. According to Cliff Tan, architect, feng shui expert, and owner of Dear Modern, the biggest mistakes are in toilet and toiletry placement.
Tan says, "[T]he toilet represents waste and also how good energy is literally flushed away." Having it directly in front of or facing the door can make it an unwanted focal point.
If you have space, you can use a water closet to remedy this design flaw. For smaller bathrooms, keep the toilet cover and door closed at all times to negate the "toilet energy."
Another mistake Tan mentions is letting unused toiletries clutter the space and hinder its relaxing energy. Use wall shelves and mirror cabinets to store items you don’t use daily.
Alternatively, use an over-the-toilet storage shelf or your under-the-sink storage area for items like cleaning products and toilet paper to keep the space soothing and calm.
