The Benefit Of Adding Epsom Salt To Your Fern Plants
By MARCO ROSSI
Epsom salt is a naturally occurring mineral compound made of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen, which makes it great for restoring your ferns back to a bright green.
If your ferns are turning yellow or are faded in color, simply mix 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt into 1 cup of water to bring their color back up.
You can also place your fern into a 5-gallon bucket of water that’s been mixed with 2 to 5 tablespoons of Epsom salt once a week, and still see great results.
Yellow ferns typically indicate a magnesium deficiency, and since these salts contain 10% magnesium, they act as a vitamin booster for your frond.
For best results and to prevent causing more problems, conduct a soil test first to determine if a magnesium deficiency is the root cause of its poor coloring.
A general rule of thumb is to use 1 tablespoon, but recommendations may vary. Play around with the amounts until you find the one that makes your fern happiest.
