Like other kitchen appliances, your Nespresso coffee maker needs routine cleaning and upkeep. You should deep clean and descale your machine once every 300 capsules.
Depending on the model you own, disassemble it and clean all the pieces with hot water and soap. After rinsing, reassemble your machine and run the cleaning cycle with water.
Descaling is similar to the water-run cleaning cycle but with a specialized solution to remove limescale, which is a white, chalk-like residue that forms after water evaporation.
Nespresso sells descaling kits for $19.50, each containing two 100ml packets of its solution. Place a 4-cup container under the spout during both cycles to catch water waste.
If you are a daily coffee drinker, perform a weekly water flush and a daily wipe down. Descale when brewing slows down, uncommon noises increase, or the coffee tastes bitter.
