Pistachios are delicious nuts with many culinary uses, but they require the right climate, water, humidity, and careful attention to grow. Preventing pests is also crucial.
The trees thrive in hot, arid summers. However, in winters from November to March, they require 900 hours of temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit for consistent blooming.
Pistachio trees need up to 50 gallons of water daily in summer and require well-draining, loamy soil. While they can adapt to various soil conditions, proper drainage is essential.
To grow pistachios, correct their zinc, boron, and copper deficiencies with foliar spray. Fertilize with 5 pounds of ammonium sulfate from July to August.
During harvest, remove the nuts once they turn orange to avoid pests. Spread a clean tarp under the tree, dry the nuts, and keep them off the soil to prevent fungal disease.
