The Birds You Do Not Want In Your Yard (And How To Get Rid Of Them!)
By PAMELA SIEGEL
Among the birds you don’t want visiting your yard, pigeons take the top spot. Thankfully, there are a few ways you can make your space inhospitable to these feathered creatures.
Pigeons are carriers
for several diseases, including Cryptococcosis, Histoplasmosis, and Psittacosis, and they've been associated with encephalitis and salmonella as well.
They also carry a horde of insects such as ticks, fleas, and certain mites, and their acidic droppings can damage awnings, gutters, other items made of metal, and even stone.
Contrary to popular belief, the feathered pests aren’t deterred by noise makers or chili peppers. Instead, try spraying a vinegar solution in your yard since the smell repels them.
You can also use your hose nozzle to encourage them to stay away or block openings in your eaves and vents with wire mesh. Wear gloves and a mask when removing any old nests.
Lastly, cut off their access to food and water. Keep your garbage cans covered, avoid leaving any snacks out, and empty your bird feeders and baths until the pigeons move along.
