The Cleaning Hack That Breathes New Life Into Stained Pizza Stones
By MICHELLE ROBERTS-GARCIA
If your pizza stone looks worse for wear, you can breathe new life into it. Use this simple cleaning hack with baking soda and water to remove stains and stubborn food residue.
Allow the stone to cool completely on a heat-resistant surface before cleaning, as a hot stone that comes in contact with water can crack due to sudden temperature changes.
Once cooled, use a rubber or plastic spatula to scrape away as much food buildup as possible from the surface. Then, mix equal parts of baking soda and water to create a paste.
Apply the paste to the stone, paying special attention to the dirtiest areas. Use a dish brush to scrub the paste in circular motions, allowing it to penetrate and lift the stains.
For tougher spots, let the paste sit for at least five minutes. Finally, clean it with a wet sponge or dish brush, and thoroughly wipe and dry the stone before its next use.
