The Clever Hack That Stops Drain Odor In Its Tracks
By JEANA HARRIS
No matter how many times you’ve scrubbed the sink, lingering odors can make your kitchen feel dirty, and thankfully, there’s a very easy hack to get rid of them. However, make sure the odor isn’t a nasty egg or sewer smell throughout multiple drains in your home, and if it is, you should call a plumber as it may be a more serious problem.
To eliminate odors in your drain, start by combining one cup of baking soda with two cups of white vinegar. This will result in a fizzing solution, so quickly pour the mixture down the sink and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Benjamin Franklin Plumbing suggests plugging the drain after you’ve applied the mixture, and then pouring a pot of boiling water down the sink. While this should eliminate odors, it isn't a one-and-done fix, so get in the habit of cleaning your drains regularly to stay on top of your sink before it starts stinking.
