The Clever Way To Add Storage For Towels With An Old Chair
By SASKIA AINSWORTH
For very little expense, you can create a unique and highly customizable storage unit in your bathroom from an old wooden chair, which you can use to store towels and other items.
The materials you’ll need are a wooden chair, some clear sealant, a cloth, degreaser, water-based paint, a water-filled tray, screws, wall plugs, painter’s tape, and sandpaper.
The tools you’ll need for this project include a drill and drill bit, a level, a screwdriver, a jigsaw, gloves, earmuffs, a respirator, a plunge router attachment, and a sander.
First, saw the seat of your chair in half and discard the front two legs. Then, shorten the back legs and drill holes into them just below the seat to hang the chair on a wall.
With painter's tape, mark where the holes are on the legs so you know where to position the chair on the wall. Then, drill holes in the wall and insert screws to hang the chair on.
Next, sand, degrease, and paint your chair. Once dry, apply sealant to the wall-facing side and hang the chair on the pre-inserted screws in the wall, with the seat facing down.
You can also expand your DIY chair wall storage by screwing hooks into the side of the shelf, inserting additional rails, adding more shelves, or joining two chairs together.
The seat of your DIY chair wall storage serves as a shelf to hold plants, ornaments, or baskets of toiletries, while the rest of the chair provides space to hang your towels.
