The Countertop HGTV's Erin Napier Would Never Use In An Older Home
By PAMELA SIEGEL
In the "New-Stalgic Restoration" episode of their hit HGTV show "Home Town," Erin Napier and her husband Ben tackle the renovation of a Victorian home, breathing new life into it.
During the extensive kitchen restoration, Erin advises against using white countertops, a common modern trend that she finds unsuitable for historic homes.
"I'm so tired of seeing slabs of white," Erin confesses, voicing her fatigue. "It would feel really out of synchronicity to put a countertop like that in a house from 1900."
Instead, she selects a granite countertop with brown and cream swirls, which harmonizes beautifully with the Shaker cabinetry and cream-colored subway tile backsplash.
While this choice is not a direct replication of a Victorian kitchen, it serves well in modernizing an older kitchen while also maintaining the room’s historical essence.
