The Critical Tip That Will Keep Your Indoor Christmas Cactus Thriving
By SAKSHI KHAITAN
A Christmas cactus can die if exposed to direct sunlight. It can’t tolerate scorching heat, but instead needs bright, indirect light and gentle warmth to thrive and bloom.
Native to the Brazilian rainforest, this epiphyte mostly grows on shrubs, trees, or rocks, so it is used to receiving indirect sunlight filtered through the foliage of large trees.
Replicate the warm, sunny environment it needs by placing it in a location with lots of indirect sunlight, like an east- or north-facing window, for around eight hours daily.
Thereafter, move it to a cool, dark spot, like a basement, for 13 to 14 hours a day if the indoor temperature is between 55 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, or 15 hours if it’s warmer.
Additionally, keep your Christmas cactus succulent away from heat sources like fireplaces or heating vents to prevent it from drying out.
