The Drawbacks Of Using Landscape Fabric In Your Vegetable Garden

Though not without advantages, some forms of landscape fabric, especially those with a heavy plastic base, can be detrimental to your garden and the environment.
Many forms of this fabric contain recycled plastic, but it still has plastic in it, which is a material that doesn't break down quickly, nor is it natural.
Plastic will likely have harmful chemicals that can leech into the ground, and the use of petroleum in their production invites more environmental risks, including air pollution.
For more earth-friendly alternatives, consider organic mulch or dye-free cardboard, or skip the covering entirely in favor of a natural pre-emergent herbicide.
