The Durable Hardwood Floor Alternative HGTV Star Hilary Farr Is Loving

For those who want hardwood flooring but have an active lifestyle, HGTV’s Hilary Farr recommends a hardwood floor alternative that she loves: luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring.
When renovating a client's home in Season 2, Episode 7 of "Tough Love with Hilary Farr," Farr decided one of the first things to change would be the worn hardwood flooring.
"With [the client’s] dogs and their lifestyle, hardwood is not the best solution," Farr shared in the episode. "I have an LVP that's going to look great and cost half as much."
"You get all the beauty of the natural wood," Farr explained, "and you get all the durability [...]. You can drop something on this, and it's not going to make a dent."
Not only is LVP more affordable than hardwood, but it's much more moisture-resistant. Unlike hardwood, LVP won’t swell or buckle because of its waterproof top layer and dense core.
LVP is also more scratch-resistant than hardwood due to its clear plastic coating that goes on top and protects the printed wood grain underneath. It can handle wear and tear.
