While green onions are easy to grow, they still have certain challenges. Planting them with marigolds will repel any pesky insects while also inviting pollinators to your garden.
Marigolds contain a natural compound called thiophene that acts as a repellent against common garden pests, like aphids and nematodes, that can damage your green onions' growth.
Additionally, marigolds’ bright blooms attract bees and butterflies that improve the pollination of your onions for a healthier and higher-yielding harvest season.
Take advantage of this pairing by planting your marigolds around the edge of your onion patch in late spring or early summer, and ensure they receive plenty of sunlight and water.
