The Fixer Upper Reno That Overdid The Reclaimed Wood Aesthetic
By ASHLYN NEEDHAM
In a remodel for Season 2 of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper,” designers Chip and Joanna Gaines went crazy with reclaimed wood in the kitchen and plastered it everywhere.
Too much reclaimed wood can reduce its purpose and make the room look too heavy. Luckily, the remodeled kitchen’s white subway tiles and cabinets added some much-needed brightness.
The kitchen is a wonderful room to decorate with reclaimed wood, but to avoid Gaines' mistake, consider limiting yourself to only a few focal points based on this material.
For instance, the island is a great place for reclaimed wood, as it is front and center and often contrasts the countertops. Alternatively, use reclaimed wood for an accent wall.
