The Flowering Shrub That Adds Natural Privacy While Attracting Birds
By RITA KUEBER
To create a private outdoor space, consider planting the Carolina rose, an easy-to-maintain flowering shrub that provides privacy, attracts pollinators, and enhances your backyard.
The Carolina rose’s fragrant pink petals bloom throughout summer. It grows to a height of 3 feet or more, forms dense hedges, and attracts wildlife such as blackbirds and thrushes.
The shrub thrives in zones 2 to 9, grows in various soils, and needs six hours of sun each day. On a trellis, it can climb 15 feet high, and its leaves turn deep red in autumn.
