The Fragrant Herb That Will Attract Beautiful Animals To Your Garden
By KRISTY BOWEN
To attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators to your backyard garden, you should consider planting some pineapple sage.
A member of the mint family, pineapple sage has a sweet, distinctive scent that resembles a pineapple and scarlet red flowers that attract various birds and insects.
Pineapple sage can grow anywhere from 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, with those in warmer climates growing the largest. It is most hardy in USDA zones 8-11.
Many factors may contribute to the timing and proliferation of blooms, including temperature, moisture, and light from artificial sources like street lamps.
The flowers typically bloom late in the season, making them perfect for hummingbirds and butterflies. In warmer climates, it will continue to bloom through the autumn.
The flowers and leaves are edible and often used in various foods, teas, and cocktails. They also make a beautiful, pineapple-scented bouquet in the summer or early fall.
