The Garden Herb That Loves Growing Near Green Onions
By AMIRA GUNDEL
In the realm of gardening, dill stands out as an ideal companion for green onions, creating a mutually beneficial relationship that boosts the flavor profiles of both plants.
Dill attracts beneficial insects such as ladybugs, lacewings, wasps, bees, and lady beetles, which help to keep pest populations under control, thus promoting a healthier garden.
Both plants prefer full sun and well-draining soil. The unique, narrow leaves of the green onions ensure they don't overshadow the dill, allowing both to receive ample sunlight.
It's best to sow dill directly into the ground from mid-spring to early summer, as it doesn't transplant well. For green onions, direct sowing and succession planting are advised.
