The IKEA Pax Wardrobe Alternative TikTok Swears By For Storage
By SASKIA AINSWORTH
While the popular IKEA Pax wardrobe system is an attractive choice for your home, it could cost you around $1000. For a more affordable alternative, try DIYing your own wardrobe.
The DIY suggested by @design2mine is relatively easy to assemble. You'll mainly need four 2x4s, a 1x4, a quarter of an inch of plywood, and two wooden pieces for the sides.
First, take four of your 2x4s to build a rectangular floor base up against the wall where you want the wardrobe to be. Then, stand up your two wardrobe side planks.
Add a closet rod or railing system at your preferred height. Next, using a 1x4 piece of wood, create a support beam connecting the two planks at the wardrobe's top with screws.
Screw in the bottom side planks to the base, then build shelving using 3/4 inch plywood and shelving cleats. Paint the wood, let it dry, then prime it and let it dry again.
You can customize the wardrobe further by painting it your preferred color, placing a curtain or a door, adding more drawers or compartments, and installing hooks for clothes.
