That Makes Sharpening Your Can Opener
Even Easier
By D.G. SCIORTINO
Dull can opener blades can spin, making it difficult, if not impossible, to open a tin can, but there’s a simple way to rejuvenate them using a sheet of aluminum foil.
Bits of food stick to the blade when you use your opener. Foil scrapes off food, small burrs, and other gunk on your can opener that prevents the blade from cutting effectively.
Cut off a long piece of aluminum foil, fold it in half, and rub the foil against the blades of your can opener. Do this carefully, as even dull blades can be dangerous.
Next, run the foil strip through the can opener by winding its handle so the foil moves between the blades, then repeat several times until it’s clean and sharp.
