The Lawn Routine You Should Avoid For The Health Of Your Grass
By SASKIA AINSWORTH
Mowing your lawn in the same direction every time is a common mistake that can seriously affect the health of your grass, leading to soil compaction and weakening over time.
After mowing, if you notice either a shift in soil color to a more parched appearance or that the grass looks thatchy, it’s a sign your lawn might be experiencing compaction.
To remedy this, begin by aerating your lawn, which will help alleviate compaction. After waiting a couple of weeks, continue mowing as usual, but remember to vary your patterns.
You can start one session with straight stripes and switch to a curved pattern for the next session. Experimenting with criss-cross shapes or circular patterns is also an option.
