The Little-Known Herb That Could Attract Wasps To Your Yard

Epazote, a lesser-known herb from Central America, is used for seasoning dishes like beans and moles. However, this self-seeding invasive plant can also draw wasps to your yard.
The herb emits a strong, distinct smell that can range from turpentine-like to citrusy, depending on whom you ask. This potent aroma makes epazote particularly attractive to wasps.
The plant’s small, greenish flowers further enhance its appeal to these buzzing insects, thanks to their intense fragrance, which can overpower the scents of nearby plants.
Since wasps prey on common garden nuisances like aphids, caterpillars, and beetles, some people intentionally plant epazote in their yards as a way to control pest populations.
