The Low-Maintenance Grass That's Perfect For Every Landscape
By KALEIGH BRILLON
For a lush landscape with minimal effort, consider adding blue oat grass. It doesn't require much care but will reward you with eye-catching clumps of silvery-blue grass.
Blue oat grass is low maintenance, fills space nicely, and has a stunning blue color that is normally only found in flowers. Its versatility makes it a must-have in any garden.
Its blue color pops most when paired with green plants or placed in a rock garden. Its short stature (2 to 3 feet) and close clumping patterns also make it great along sidewalks.
This plant thrives in dry to moderately moist soil but looks the most blue in dry soil. Although it grows well in hardiness zones 4-8, it is only evergreen in warmer climates.
In fall and winter, the blue color fades to brown, so if you don’t mind the look, you can keep them out during the cold seasons. Remove brown leaves found in the spring or summer.
It looks best in full sun but tolerates partial shade. Able to thrive in most soils (preferably well draining to prevent fungal growth), this plant also does not attract any pests.
