Most people wait until the painted room is completely dry before removing the painter's tape, but Gaines said that could create a jagged edge instead of a straight one.
Instead, Gaines recommends removing the tape when the paint is still tacky to the touch — but not immediately after painting or while the paint is still wet.
To test whether the wall is tacky, lightly touch the surface near the floor or on a section that won't likely be noticed, just in case your finger leaves a slight imperfection.
