The Pros And Cons Of Double-Stacked Cabinets For Extra Kitchen Storage

During a kitchen renovation, one of the key decisions you must make is what type of cabinets to get. If storage space is a concern, consider using double-stacked kitchen cabinets.
Double-stacked cabinets, in which one set of cabinets sits on top of another, can store more items. The upper units are often much shorter and less accessible than the lower ones.
Despite the increased costs to install, the biggest advantage to having double-stacked cabinets is the extra storage space. You can use the upper cabinets to stash seasonal items.
Alternatively, create a display area in the upper cabinets by placing glass doors over them. Install lighting, such as puck lighting, to showcase the items behind the
glass doors.
Adding an upper set of cabinets will remove the open space between traditional kitchen cabinets and the ceiling, giving the kitchen a more finished, streamlined appearance.
However, this extra storage space may not be very practical when it’s difficult to access. Since they almost reach the ceiling, you’ll likely need a step stool to access them.
Another thing to consider is the size of your kitchen space, as double-stacked cabinets can make the room feel even smaller. The upper cabinets could also block some natural light.
These cabinets may also hurt the resale value of your home. A potential buyer may have difficulty reaching the upper cabinets, making the design less appealing.
