The Remodeling Mistake That Will Keep Your Kitchen Stuck In The Past
By TRINITY ARCHIE
While you might be tempted to follow the trends when it comes to remodeling your kitchen, the experts warn that this is not a good idea for those aiming to build a timeless space.
“Trends come and go, so it’s best to avoid finishes that are too trendy,” Ann Stockard of kitchen design company O'Brien Harris shared during an interview with MarthaStewart.com.
The color scheme is one of the most common design elements where timelessness is neglected as many opt for bold or trendy colors that will get old fast.
However, it’s best to skip busy wallpaper patterns, ‘all-white’ kitchens, and too many bold colors. Neutral colors and wooden flooring, on the other hand, are always a good choice.
Consider using white as a base color in your kitchen so you can experiment with occasional pops of color. If those colors go out of style, revert to white or another neutral shade.
Lastly, during an interview with MarthaStewart.com, Caren Rideau, an interior designer and Kitchen Design Group founder, explained why quartzite countertops should be your go-to.
“Quartzite maintains the classic look of marble, but can withstand the trials [...] of a working kitchen,” Rideau shared. “I recommend selecting a straight-edge countertop.”
