The Stone Floor Alternative That Will Give You Major Savings
By ROSE OKEKE
Stone floors are undeniably beautiful but come at a price range of $8 to $47 per square foot. Fortunately, there’s a cheaper way to achieve the same timeless aesthetic.
Vinyl stone flooring costs about $2.50 to $13 per square foot. It’s created by capturing photographic images of stone patterns on vinyl, which is then cut into planks or tiles.
At the higher price points are the thick, luxury vinyl tiles which — unlike real stone — provide insulation against cold. They also feel and look more like natural stone.
Sheet vinyl is cheaper, can be cut to the size of your room, and is water and mold-resistant. However, it’s also hard to repair and will require professional installation.
Vinyl tiles, on the other hand, are laid individually, and so are not mold-resistant, unfortunately, but easily repairable. You can also cut costs by laying them yourself.
Apart from affordability, vinyl stone floors provide cushioning, insulation, and minimal maintenance, requiring only sweeping and mopping for upkeep.
