The Trendy Home Feature Unsellable Houses Recommends Ditching
By V BAWA
Sunken living rooms, or conversation pits, were popular in the ‘60s and ‘70s, but Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis of "Unsellable Houses" previously advised a couple to ditch theirs.
Based on what buyers look for these days, the HGTV stars knew that the sunken living room in this episode wouldn't work, especially in a home where the kitchen is closely attached.
The sunken living room created a safety hazard, along with a disconnection in the floor plan in the limited space that was available, which hurt the overall value of the home.
As the steps would be hazardous for buyers with kids or people with mobility issues, Davis and Lamb thought a seamless layout would allow for more flow and create separate areas.
