The Wall Color Home Town's Erin Napier Swears By For Extra Drama
By BROOKE YOUNGER
Dark colors create a better sense of coziness, depth, and mystery that white and pastels can't touch, and HGTV star Erin Napier doesn't shy away from this side of the paint aisle.
According to her blog, Napier’s secret for making black paint look cozy and chic is selecting the right shade of "dingy" to make the room feel unique while making your décor pop.
Black is best for enhancing spaces that already have a warm and moody vibe, like libraries, offices, hallways, and even bedrooms.
One of the biggest tricks that Napier uses for styling dark paint is to look for furniture, artwork, and décor that play up this quality and contrast with the walls.
Napier suggests paying close attention to the undertones. For example, a warm, brown-toned black feels more approachable and natural in a room than a cold raven black does.
Lastly, she warns to avoid glossy black paints and instead go for matte and eggshell finishes which will achieve a softer, more comfortable and worn-in look.
